A well-planned enclosed trailer roof repair can protect your cargo, reduce maintenance costs, and extend the life of your trailer. However, you need to have the right tools and supplies for the job.
Prolonged exposure to sunlight and extreme temperatures degrades materials, causing leaks that can cause damage inside the trailer. Routine inspections can spot these problems early on.
Sealing
My wife and I recently bought an aluminum skinned cargo trailer that was used by a cell tower contractor. Over the years materials and ladders were dropped on the roof and created small dents/tears in the aluminum skin. This could eventually allow water to seep in causing damage. I would like to seal the roof and walls. Any recommendations for a good metal roof sealant?
Ideally, you should use a product that provides an airtight and waterproof barrier against moisture to protect your cargo. A high quality tape with advanced MicroSealant technology works best for this type of application. It is flexible to -57 degrees Celsius and withstands thermal shock. It is easy to apply, waterproof, and long-lasting. Its corrosion resistance is also a benefit.
Trimming
I bought a used 18′ Jensen cargo trailer with an aluminum skinned roof and walls. Apparently, materials and ladders were dropped directly onto the roof for years so it has some dents/holes that need to be patched to prevent water leaks and further damage. I’ve had two “professional” bids to do the job and they’re astronomical. I’m looking for someone in the Victoria, Corpus or Houston area to help me save some $$. Thanks! Also, I need to get the walls trimmed and screwed back together where they were removed to make room for a ladder rack.
